Thoughts about Jiu-Jitsu and the Universe

Patience

Jiu-jitsu is all about patience. Business is less stressful if you’re patient. I’m not patient when it comes to business and that costs money, because I make hasty decisions. I can have a 300 lb man’s belly on my head all day. Yes it sucks; no, I can’t breathe, but I know it’s just a matter of time before I can make a move and improve my position. Patience is critical to your jiu-jitsu game.

I know how to be patient in jiu-jitsu, but business is a different story. I think it’s because I’m new to the whole business thing. I don’t know when to make a move, and I don’t feel comfortable on my back. I don’t have the sensitivity or the timing down yet. I don’t know when to attack. It’s like my first days on the mat. You want to power through everything. You want to muscle, when finesse and patience would work a lot better, and when you muscle through that’s when you get caught.

So, what I need to do is breathe and relax, hold my position and check my base and look for opportunity.
