Make Room on the Sleeve
I’ve talked about being committed before. You commit to your wife, your kids, to a double leg, to your job, your business, and sometimes to a group or groups you belong to. And there are ways we show we are committed, we wear wedding bands, we show up to our kid’s school play, we might wear our school’s t-shirt around town, or put stickers on our cars.
I have a couple guys get tattoos that show their commitment to our jiu-jitsu school. I started to think about why someone would do that—I don’t even have a tattoo that represents the school, and it’s my school.
I think the tattoo is a moniker, something that shows what you value, what’s important to you, something you’re proud of. A lot of us have tattoos that represent our families because they are who we love; they are important to us.
My school and business are very important to me and since I already have tattoos that represent all my kids and my wife, it’s time to get some tattoos that represent my other loves, and those are West Side Jiu-Jitsu Academy and Tap or Die—make room on the sleeve, two more tattoos coming up.
