Nothing New Under the Sun
Okay, I admit that I’m not the most religious person in the world, but there are some things in every religion that seem to me to be truths. Take for example this translation from the bible, “What has been will be again, what has been done will be done again; there is nothing new under the sun.” I think it’s from Ecclesiastes. To me it doesn’t really matter where it’s from, what matters is, is it true?
I found this clip on another blog site called jiujitsusavedmylife. Blood on the Sun starred James Cagney and was made in 1945—1945! Did you watch the clip? Did you see the attempted collar choke? The armlock? Holy shit! This was in 1945. There truly is nothing new under the sun.
I remember watching an old Walt Bayless video where Walt was demonstrating a choke he called the “knuckle choke,” he said that it was something he made up, but then quickly qualified it by saying that he thought he had made it up and for all he knew it could have been discovered 300 years earlier by a grappler in India. I like Walt’s attitude. I really believe that there is nothing truly new, but it is our job to rediscover those things that we never knew existed.
I love the fight scene in Blood on the Sun; it reminds me that there are many things to be rediscovered and to remember that our future might come from our past.

That was fantastic! Why don’t we practice a few of those throws in class! After last nights class on throws you have to admire those guys throwing each other on a hard floor.
Their stand up needs work… Seriously though, that was great! Helio pirated James Cagney!
