Thoughts about Jiu-Jitsu and the Universe

Tap or Die the site, the blog, the wonderfully written master piece of the written language has a new reader, a reader that I’m actually very happy to have. That reader is OCSD (the Ogden City School District). Apparently (I’m sure after reading “The Tattooed Teacher and Losing a Job” post) Tap or Die has the dubious distinction of making the “Banned List”—forever blocked from all district computers—ACESS DENIED.

What should really pop up when you try to access the site are the following:

Criticism-DENIED, opinion- DENIED, diversity- DENIED, open-mindedness-DENIED. It’s actually kind of funny—it makes me feel like a protester, a conscious objector, a red, a commie, a Black Panther of the ‘60s–the Huey P. Newton of the education system except a lot bigger and with tattoos.

The district was blocking blogs anyway, but my site is a blog on a dot com, so it wouldn’t be blocked unless somebody specifically was looking to block it, plus all the other dot-com blogs I occasionally frequent at school are not blocked–just mine. Hmmm?

Orwellian. I am not surprized. As an example of character, you may be teaching more than English. I don’t think this has much to do about tattoos as much as it is about power. Really though, who is one man to defy a bureaucracy? Would it be so bad for the Ogden High School students know someone who’s concience is his highest authority? Who knows, you could be a terrorist? I am afraid. I am glad the government has lists for people like you!

An academic institution advocating censorship? Never!
Such is the current state of academia. My university experience was tainted with bull shit like this all the time, although it never transcended to technology like it has for you. I have come to expect censorship in the university setting, but am shocked to see it hit the high schools.

    !revolucion!
